  • Neighbors Being Neighborly - Along with warmer weather comes open windows and outdoor parties. Unfortunately, when the two collide, unhappy neighbors can result. But the neighborly environment that makes Upper Monroe a great place to live can also be a catalyst to dealing constructively with this problem. Here are a few suggestions that could create greater understanding and less frustration for both party hosts and their neighbors:
  • Are you concerned about crime in our neighborhood? The City of Rochester Police Department offers a volunteer program that enables citizens to be eyes and ears in our neighborhood with a direct link to the police. The PACTAC Program (Police And Citizens Together Against Crime) provides volunteers with all training and materials needed. Several years ago, some of our neighbors were trained for PAC-TAC, and one of them was Mike Gregoire. Mike is interested in reviving that effort. If you would like to help, please contact him at m@mikegregoire.com , or 244-6431. More information about PAC-TAC can be found at Rochester N.Y. Police Department
  • Tree Problems?- Call City Forestry (428-7581) if that tree between your sidewalk and the street is not looking no-so-good.  Those trees are maintained by the city and someone from City Forestry will check to see if there is something the can do to make that tree healthier.
  • Duck Problems? See a duck drowning in Cobbs Hill Reservoir?  Call City of Rochester Department of Environmental Services, Eric Carlson 261-4427.
  • Cobbs Hill Park / Washington Grove / Tay House/ Culver Road and Norris Drive 14610

It contains an enormous amount of information so check it out at: www.cityofrochester.gov  Under the “Citizen Service Center” click on “Street/Sidewalk Maintenance” which will bring you to “Street Beat” to see a daily list of activities or click on the Environmental Services icon (the yellow truck) to find out more about the Department of Environmental Services.
  • Spring Clean Up Week - April 25 - April 29
  • Department of Environmental Services: We invite you to call our 24 hour Office of Customer Satisfaction at 428-5990 or our winter weather line at 428-SNOW (7669) for a recorded message about roadway and sidewalk snow plowing, which is updated as weather conditions change.
  • Rochester Animal Services (RAS) is dedicated to improving the quality of life and safety for city residents and their animals, the promotion of responsible pet ownership, and the reduction of animal overpopulation to reduce animal suffering and euthanasia. RAS enforces all New York State and City of Rochester ordinances pertaining to animal control. We operate an animal shelter for stray, injured, and disowned animals that serves both as an adoption center and as a site for locating lost pets. We strive to provide the best possible care for every animal in our charge.
