Things to do in Upper Monroe Neighborhood:

 What Can You Do?

 PLENTY!

There are so many ways to make a difference close to home within the Upper Monroe Neighborhood. Please consider giving an hour once, once a month or once a week. If every neighbor did- can you imagine the neighborhood we could create? Below are some ways to get involved.

* UMNA (Upper Monroe Neighborhood Association) meets monthly on the FIRST Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. at The Corner Place, 983 Monroe Avenue.  Contact Josh Bauroth  at 429-5445.

* Gardening Club meets during the gardening season every Wednesday.  See article on page 3 for further details.  Contact Jane Alexander at 244-8415.

* The Corner Place Steering Committee is looking for new members who will help enhance their mission by bringing new ideas to the table. The Corner Place, through its arts programs and activities, seeks to build bridges between neighbors and to provide an accessible meeting place where people can come together.  Contact Joyce Perry at 244-3125

* Upper Monroe Implementation Teams are beginning to work towards major improvements in the neighborhood, guided by the charrette’s vision plan.  See the article on page 1 for details on each of the teams.  Go to www.uppermonroeavenue.org to read the vision plan.  This is a perfect time to get involved.   Call Linda Hermans 242-8905

* Arts Academy Volunteers are needed to assist teachers during summer classes at The Corner Place Arts Academy. You can come just once during the program or commit to a regular schedule.  Contact Char Schuth at 392-9035

From the Highland Ave. entrance, an access road leads up to the top of the reservoir and all the way around. You can run a walking path around the reservoir (totally flat, 6/10th of a mile per lap) or run the access road itself (pretty good hill and 3/4 of a mile per lap).

    • The City Walk THE WALK -This is our flagship event with over 30 Walks held to date! The first Thursday of every month, we walk as a group to three local downtown restaurants, bars, and music venues. We provide a safe and relaxing way to meet new people and experience the flavor of our city. Attendance at these events ranges from 40 to 110 people, with the summer months attracting the biggest crowds. Our Walks are held no matter what the weather—although some prefer to drive. Expect fabulous free food, exclusive drink discounts, awesome live concerts, and free prizes! No two events are ever the same. But most of all, our goal is to make them memorable with themes like Ladies Night, Crazy Hat Networking Night, Art & The City Walk (memorial Art Gallery and concert featuring Kinky), I See A Walk In Your Future (astrology), The Walk Gets SuperBad (70's costume theme), and The Walk Mixes It Up (an exclusive studio party with live DJ spinning house music)!

      • Rochester, NY, Cobbs Hill Reservoir, Walking Tour Cobbs Hill Reservoir is a manmade circular lake located on top of a hill in Cobbs Hill Park. A paved walking path surrounds the reservoir which is protected by a metal fence. A road circles the reservoir. Parking is allowed on the eastern and northeastern sides of the park. Although you may see numerous cars parked on the west side, they are parked illegally and may be ticketed.

      • Cobb's Hill Park In New York City, Central Park has a sort of island effect. The birds drop out of the sky after a long night of migration, and all they see is buildings. They head for the green stuff - Central Park. In Rochester, Cobbs Hill Park benefits, to a lesser extent, from the same phenomenon.
