Invites Community to
Mayor Robert J. Duffy joined Police Chief David T.
Moore and Neighborhood Empowerment Team (NET) Director
Molly Clifford today to unveil the newly revitalized
Police and Citizens Together Against Crime (PAC TAC)
initiative.
The long-running program, which pairs citizens up
with officers from the Rochester Police Department,
revealed a new look to kick-off recruitment efforts for
the summer. Chief Moore announced that PAC TAC's
eye-catching new uniforms are just the beginning. "We
are committed to reassigning police officers to PAC TAC,"
said Chief Moore. "This is an effective program that
partners dedicated community members with our
hard-working officers to fight crime. These are the
kinds of innovative solutions that deserve our continued
support."
The roll-out coincides with a PAC TAC-themed City
Hall on the Road, 5:30 p.m., Tues., May 22, Webster
Ave. Community Center (530 Webster Ave.), when Mayor
Duffy and his team will hit the streets armed with PAC
TAC literature and encourage people to sign-up.
"I continue to be impressed by the spirit of
volunteerism in this community," said Mayor Duffy.
"Whether it's keeping our streets clean with efforts
like 'Rochester's Clean Sweep,' or making our
neighborhoods safer with the PAC TAC initiative, I know
that the people of Rochester will answer the call."
PAC-TAC is the Rochester Police Department's largest
volunteer initiative where hundreds of PAC TACers work
side-by-side with Rochester's finest to keep our streets
safe. The original concept of PAC TAC was developed in
1972 by Police Commissioner John Mastrella. Its mission
is to prevent crime by partnering concerned citizens
with trained police officers in their neighborhoods.
Volunteers are being encouraged to register for PAC TAC
by calling 428-7496. Online registration is available at
www.pactac.cityofrochester.gov.
