GARDENING WITH FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS! Our
neighborhood is very fortunate to have a group of
neighbors who enjoy gardening and working together to
plant and maintain the public gardens planted by UMNA.
These gardens have all been funded by grants and
designed by Anne Lichtenstein, our own neighborhood
master gardener. We put in an hour or a bit more every
Wednesday evening starting at 6:30 and devote the
evening to one garden (we have 7 - Butterfly on Culver;
Monroe Avenue at Culver, Werner Park, Belmont, Laburnam
and Engle Place). I cannot post a schedule because we
decide each week which garden needs us the most, but I
can call you and let you know where we will be if you
let me know of your interest. Call Jane Alexander at
244-8415, and join us!

GARDENING GROUP - Contact Jane Alexander at
244-8415 to work with a fun group in making our
neighborhood gardens spectacular!
Calling All Garden
Lovers
The garden group is
busy making plans for beautiful gardens in the
neighborhood again this year. We are going to start
with a little help from our friends on Clean Sweep
Day and follow up with planting the annuals
distributed by the city later in the month.
Throughout the
summer the gardens are maintained weekly by a group
of volunteers from the area who meet for an hour (7
to 8 PM) on Tuesday evenings and followed by an ice
cream or beverage as needed.
This year, we are
adding another garden to replace the struggling
plants at the corner of Engle Place and Monroe
Avenue. Moving that garden back from the trees will
give the plants a chance at water and a commissioned
fence will enhance the garden while providing some
definition and protection. We are fortunate for have
a master gardener, Anne Lichtenstein, who plans our
gardens and guides our efforts in keeping them
beautiful.
If you love to
garden or just pull a few weeds or meet new folks
and learn more about gardens, please join us. To get
your questions answered or get on the weekly call
reminder list, call and leave a message on Jane's
machine at 244-8415.
And if you cannot
join the group, please, feel free to pull a few
weeds as you walk by or just stop by and admire the
plants! |
